The Power of a Promise Luncheon benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure Puget Sound Affiliate drew 450 guests and raised $160,000. Speaker Hattie Kauffman (above), national correspondent for The Early Show on CBS News, “came out” about her battles with breast cancer in a moment that moved the audience. Although she has interviewed survivors such as Betty Ford, this was the first time she had publicly acknowledged her own disease. Pacific Northwest Research Institute (pnri.org) raised more than $250,000 for the prevention and cure of diabetes at its fourth annual “An Evening of Wine” benefit auction at The Golf Club at Newcastle.
